The UEFA Futsal Champions League Main Round is scheduled this week. As in the past season, Croatia will be represented on the European stage by Futsal champion Futsal Dinamo and runner-up MNK Olmissum. From Wednesday to Saturday, the people of Zagreb and Omiš will seek their place among the 16 best European teams. Futsal Dinamo is visiting Mallorca with the defending champion Palma Futsal, and the rest of the competition for placement in the Elite Round consists of Slovenian Dobovec and Romanian United Galati. Olmissum, on the other hand, is visiting Priština, where Portugal’s Braga and Czech Plzeň are also present.
What are the prospects for our duo to reach the TOP-16? We feel that Futsal Dinamo has a slightly more manageable task. On the very first day, the Zagreb team will play against Palma Futsal, the first favorite of this group. Still, we are sure that the Croatian champion is of better quality than the Slovenian and Romanian champions. On the second day of the Futsal competition, Dinamo will play against the Slovenian Dobovec, which has weakened compared to last season. At the same time, Futsal Dinamo will conclude the competition with a duel against the Romanian champions, whom we met two years ago when they visited Pula as part of the Champions League Elite round. Regarding Dobovac and United Galati, it would be a big surprise if Futsal Dinamo does not qualify for the Elite Round.
Omišans in Pristina will have a somewhat more difficult task. Portugal’s Braga “took” a place in the Champions League from Benfica and is the first favorite of the group, while the remaining trio compete for the remaining two places that lead to placement in the Elite round. Czech Plzeň has taken over the importance of the Czech Republic in recent years, and it is a perfect team made up of the best Czech players with foreign reinforcements. They will open the competition against the Czech champion Plzeň. On the other hand, Prishtina is the host and is sure to have hopes that it can win a place among the top 16. It is a fact that the “green and blue” underwent significant changes this summer, and it is a team that is in the making. Omiš is going to Pristina without a result imperative. Still, we believe that Frano Despotović’s team will win their place in the Elite round, and Croatia will have two representatives among the 16 best European teams.
Today, the competition in group 4 starts in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Along with the home team, Kairat, there is also Sporting from Lisbon, Haladás from Hungary, and Semey from Kazakhstan. Our duo has been on the scene since Wednesday, and on Saturday, we will find out which 16 clubs will continue competing in the Elite Round.
