The Croatian futsal team convincingly defeated Azerbaijan in Baku, ending the qualification cycle for next year’s European Championship in Lithuania and Latvia with a 100 percent performance.
Six games. Six victories. From the beginning to the end in one breath. In Baku, it was already 3:0 on the scoreboard in the 12th minute, thanks to two goals by a cheerful David Mataja (6′, 12′) and a goal by Josip Jurlina (9′). Mataja’s goal was particularly striking when he dribbled past the entire home team, bypassed the goalkeeper, and rattled the net.
At the beginning of the resumption, Rustamli eased the Croatian national team’s advantage with a goal, but Nikola Gudasić again led Croatia to a three-goal lead in the 32nd minute.
Marinko Mavrović:
I’m glad that we showed seriousness in this last match as well, because… It was not easy to motivate ourselves after the match with Greece and securing a place in the Euro, given that there was an emotional drain. However, we showed character and that’s why I like this victory even more.
We were clear favorites in the group and we confirmed that regardless of the change of generation. We will not be satisfied with that, we will try to make a step forward at the Euro compared to our previous performances in major competitions, because we have not been right until now. I am glad that in this qualification cycle, many players took advantage of the opportunity and the trust shown. We got three or four good solutions in each position, all these players are aware that they are not safe in their position, they fight for their status and play with all their heart for Croatia. This is what makes us beautiful. We have youth, new energy, I believe that we will be competitive at the Euro.
David Mataja:
This time I scored such a goal, another time someone else will. It was a moment of inspiration, luckily the opponents were falling on the floor, ha, ha, ha… I’m happy, it’s a big thing to score such a beautiful goal for the national team, but the most important thing is that we fulfilled the goal and achieved all six victories. we qualified relatively easily for the European Championship, now we need to rest well, prepare and prove that we are worth it.
