UEFA has published the list of 54 national teams for the fifth edition of the Nations League on its official pages, placing Croatia in League A alongside the world’s top teams like Portugal, France, Spain, Germany, and other European powerhouses.
The group stage will run from September to November 2026, with the knockout phase from March to June 2027. The draw for the groups is scheduled for February 12, 2026, in Brussels.
Leagues A, B, and C will each feature 16 teams divided into four groups, while League D has six teams in two groups of three. Croatia’s placement in the elite League A confirms their status among Europe’s best, despite the 2023 final loss to Spain on penalties in Rotterdam.
Portugal is the reigning champion after beating Spain on penalties in June, securing their second title (first in 2019 with a 1-0 win over the Netherlands). Croatia reached the 2023 final but fell to “La Furia Roja” in the shootout at De Kuip. This fifth edition continues to deliver high-stakes clashes among top nations.
Placement in League A poses both a challenge and an opportunity for the Vatreni to compete with the elite and aim for the top, especially given their recent final appearances. The February draw will reveal specific opponents, with Croatian fans already anticipating thrilling matchups against European giants. This underscores the strength of Croatian football on the international stage.
