Dinamo Zagreb’s football academy secured seventh place worldwide in the CIES Football Observatory’s 2025 rankings, evaluating 100 top academies across 49 leagues.
The Swiss-based CIES assessed academies using a training index that weighs the number of academy-trained players active last season (Dinamo with 77), the elite level of their clubs (average 0.81-0.87 score), and official minutes played (around 2,532 per player). Players qualify as academy products after three years at the club between ages 15-21, emphasizing sustained development.
Benfica leads with 93 players, followed by Barcelona (76), River Plate, Ajax, Boca Juniors, Sporting CP, Dinamo Zagreb (77.9 index), Defensor SC, Real Madrid, and Vélez Sarsfield. Thirty countries feature in the top 100, led by Argentina (15 clubs) and Brazil (11); Hajduk Split ranks 46th.
Notable exports like Dani Olmo (Barcelona), Joško Gvardiol (Manchester City), and Luka Modrić (AC Milan loan) boost the ranking, with players thriving in top leagues across Italy, Germany, and beyond. This continues Dinamo’s elite status, previously sixth in February 2025 for transfers to Europe’s top five leagues.
