The Croatian national futsal team achieved an impressive victory against Greece in Varaždin, with a score of 6:0, thereby mathematically securing a place at EURO 2026, which will be held in Latvia and Lithuania. This victory also confirmed Croatia’s dominance in the qualifiers, where Marinko Mavrović’s team achieved a maximum of five wins from as many games, with a goal difference of 25:6.
The Varaždin crowd enthusiastically followed the performance of the inspired Croatian team, which showed its superiority from the beginning. In the first minute, Nikola Gudasić opened the scoring with a great shot into the upper right corner. A minute later, Luka Perić increased the score to 2:0, while Kristijan Čekol scored the third goal in the fourth minute after a precise assist from Perić. Josip Jurlina completed the first half with a goal in the 12th minute for a high 4:0.
Croatia’s dominance continued in the second half of the match. Gudasić made it 5:0 with his second goal in the 29th minute. At the same time, debutant David Barbarić scored his debut a minute later for the final 6:0. This victory further strengthened Croatia’s status as the best team in Group 5, ensuring direct qualification to the European Championship.
The Croatian futsal team qualified for its seventh European Championship. The most tremendous success in this competition was achieved in 2012, when “Mini Vatreni” won fourth place as the tournament’s hosts. This ranking comes after several achievements, including participation in the World Cup last year.
The goal was achieved with this great victory, we entered the game phenomenally and worked it to the end, giving all players a chance, no one was happier than us. We were the favorites, and we showed that, now we want to continue like that and try to finish the cycle with all six victories. We entered the continuity of major competitions, we hope to leave a deeper mark on the European Championship – Marniko Mavrović, Head Coach
Of course I’m happy, this is the crowning glory of my work, this victory and the first goals. I think that Croatian futsal is doing well, that the entire national team is training well, and this is proof that we are on the right track. We have secured the place, but we are going to Azerbaijan for another win. I think we all want to play in the biggest competitions, this Croatia deserves it, and we don’t want to be just passing through the European Championship – Nikola Gudasić
