Croatia’s men’s senior handball team suffered its first-ever loss to Switzerland, falling 28:30 in a friendly in Lucerne on November 1, 2025.
After a 29:26 win in Bern two days prior, Croatia tied 15:16 at halftime but led 19:17 early in the second before fatigue hit; Switzerland pulled ahead 24:22 at the 51st, extending to +3 late. Croatia rallied to 27:27 with two minutes left, but Matija Špikić’s penalty save led to a rebound goal by Gino Steenaerts, sealing it at 30:28.
Ivan Martinović led Croatia with 7 goals, Filip Glavaš and Leon Ljevar added 6 each; Noam Leopold topped Switzerland with 10, Steenaerts had 6.
