Radomir Đalović is no longer the head coach of HNK Rijeka, effective September 1, 2025. The former player and assistant coach became the central coach at the start of the previous season and concluded his tenure after 52 matches in just over a year.
During this time, Rijeka won the Croatian league title for the second time in club history, added the Croatian Cup trophy, and secured a place in the UEFA Conference League group stage. As head coach, Đalović’s record with Rijeka was 23 wins, 15 draws, and 14 losses.
The decision to dismiss him was communicated during a morning meeting with the club’s sporting director, Darko Raić-Sudar. Despite the successes last season, the team had a poor start to the new season, earning only 5 points in the first five league rounds. Results in European competitions were also unsatisfactory, with elimination from the Champions League qualifiers by Ludogorets, a close escape against Shelbourne in the Europa League qualifiers, and a heavy 5-0 home defeat against PAOK in the playoffs.
The change in club ownership likely influenced the decision. The club announced the termination on social media, thanked Đalović and his staff for their contributions and achievements, and wished them success in their future careers. The new coach expected to take over is Spanish coach Victor Sanchez, who recently managed Ljubljana’s Olimpija.
This dismissal came just three months after Đalović led Rijeka to the domestic double (league and cup victories). The team currently sits seventh in the league with an 8-point deficit behind the leaders Dinamo and Hajduk, highlighting the competitive challenge ahead.
