MARKO KOPLJAR – A NEW BEGINNING AFTER A WONDERFUL PLAYING CAREER

Marko Kopljar, the celebrated Croatian handball sharpshooter, has officially ended his illustrious playing career. After much consideration about his future, Kopljar decided to say goodbye to active competition and embark on a new chapter as a coach. The German club Potsdam offered him the opportunity to become an assistant coach, and Kopljar gladly accepted this new challenge.

In his new role, Kopljar will assist head coach Emir Kurtagić, focusing especially on developing young players and passing on his vast experience. By transitioning into coaching, Kopljar demonstrates his desire to remain connected to handball and continue contributing to the sport in a different capacity.

Throughout his career, Kopljar achieved impressive results. He played 155 matches for the Croatian national team and scored 322 goals. He also competed for prestigious clubs such as Zagreb, PSG, Barcelona, Veszprém, Füchse Berlin, and Flensburg. His most significant club tenure was with Füchse Berlin, where he spent seven seasons and recorded major successes. With the Croatian national team, he won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games, as well as multiple medals at European and World Championships.

Now, Marko Kopljar will transfer his knowledge, work ethic, and winning mentality to the young athletes in Potsdam, marking the beginning of an exciting new coaching career. This step reflects his commitment to remain part of the handball community and to contribute to the development of the sport and its future generations.
