Croatian football expert Dragan Skočić wrote the history of Iranian football by winning the championship with the Tractor club from Tabriz. This is the first time in history that Tractor, one of Iran’s most popular and massive clubs, has won the title in the Iranian Pro League, making this achievement even more significant.
Under Skočić’s leadership, Tractor played exceptionally stable and convincingly throughout the season. They achieved a key victory against Shams Azar, thus mathematically securing the title two rounds before the end of the championship. After that round, they had an eight-point advantage over their nearest competitor, Sepahan, which was unattainable until the end of the competition.
Apart from Skočić, Croatian footballers Domagoj Drožđek, Tomislav Štrkalj, and Igor Postonjski also played an essential role in this historic success. Their contribution on the field was significant for the team’s stability and efficiency, and the Croatian colony in Tabriz further strengthened the bond between Croatian and Iranian football.
By winning the championship, Tractor secured direct placement in the AFC Champions League Elite, the newly formed elite Asian club competition. This is another significant step forward for the club, which was known until now for the great atmosphere in the stadium and loyal fan base, but the title had always eluded them.
For Dragan Skočić, this is the crown of his coaching career in Iran. Let’s remind you that Skočić previously managed several Iranian clubs and achieved his greatest success as the coach of the Iranian national team, with which he qualified for the World Cup in 2022. Although sacked before the tournament, Skočić remained highly respected in Iran for his expert work and professionalism.
This historic title caused euphoria among Tractor fans, who celebrated all over Tabriz and the wider region. The media in Iran and Croatia highlight Skočić as one of the most successful foreign coaches in the history of Iranian football, and his success further strengthened the reputation of Croatian coaches and players in Asia.
Dragan Skočić and his Croatian colleagues wrote a new page in the history of Iranian football, and this success will remain written in golden letters in the history of the Tractor club and the career of the Croatian coach.
