Dominik Livaković found a new club – the Croatian national team goalkeeper will continue his career with Spanish first division club Girona, the club from the Montilivi stadium announced. Livaković joins Girona on loan from Fenerbahçe until the end of the season.
“Known for his confidence, reflexes, and penalty saves, Livaković has been a key player in crucial moments for the Croatian national team. With his arrival, Girona strengthens its goalkeeping position with a player who has proven results and extensive international experience,” the Spanish club said.
The announcement of Livaković’s transfer to La Liga arrived in the final moments of the summer transfer window. He played 74 games for Fenerbahçe in the past two seasons (57 in the Turkish Super Lig, six in the Europa League, six in the Conference League, and five in Champions League qualifiers), keeping a clean sheet 26 times. During his career, he has also played for Dinamo Zagreb and NK Zagreb. He has 66 caps for the Croatian national team and has won a World Cup silver medal (2018), a bronze medal (2022), and a Nations League silver medal (2023).
Spanish midfielder Bryan Gil (24) from Tottenham also joined Girona. Gil signed a five-year contract for a transfer fee of 10 million euros. He spent last season on loan at Girona, which has now permanently acquired him.
Girona is currently in last place in La Liga after three rounds with three defeats and a goal difference of 1-10.
Transfer details highlight that Livaković is expected to take the role of first-choice goalkeeper at Girona, replacing Juan Carlos, who suffered a serious injury. His transfer follows a chain of European club changes with Gianluigi Donnarumma moving to Manchester City, which allowed Ederson to join Fenerbahçe, pushing Livaković out of the starting spot.
Livaković aims to maintain his high level and position in the national team by moving to La Liga with Girona.
