Croatia’s futsal team secured third place at the Metz tournament with a narrow win over Colombia and continues to climb FIFA rankings.

Croatia defeated Colombia 1:0 on December 21, 2025, thanks to Nikola Gudasić’s goal in the 18th minute, finishing third behind France (4 points) and Paraguay (3 points, better head-to-head). After a 3:5 loss to Paraguay, coach Marinko Mavrović praised the team’s progress against flying goalkeeper tactics and expressed optimism for the upcoming European Championship.
Croatia’s men’s futsal team rose to 15th place (up one) and the women’s team to 39th (up two) in FIFA’s latest rankings released December 15, 2025. Brazil leads both categories, followed by Portugal and Spain in men’s, and Spain and Portugal in women’s.
Mavrović highlighted the generational shift—with only two players from Euro 2022—yet noted strong qualifications for recent Euros and the World Cup after 24 years, aiming to advance from the group and beyond at the Euros starting preparations January 11.
First, the hosts must be praised for organizing the tournament at the highest level and creating a true spectacle. Regarding our performances, there is regret over the defeat against Paraguay, as we were very strong for most of the match, but we failed to adapt when the opponent played with a flying goalkeeper. However, against Colombia, we made progress in that aspect of the game. The victory is pleasing as it instills optimism in us ahead of the upcoming European Championship. The players are now returning to their clubs, where league commitments await; I hope everything goes without injuries, and we gather in full strength on January 11th at the start of preparations before heading to the Euros. We have undergone a generational shift; compared to the last Euros, only two players remain who played a key role in the Netherlands in 2022. We qualified for the last two European Championships and the World Cup after 24 years—that’s a great achievement—but we are aware that we could have performed better at those major tournaments. Our goals and ambitions are clear: we want to advance from the group stage, but much more than that. We are a young team, and I believe we can achieve a strong result. – Marinko Mavrović, Croatian Head Coach
