CROATIA WOMEN’S HANDBALL FALLS 24:33 TO ROMANIA AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Croatia’s senior women’s handball team opened the 2025 World Championship with a 24:33 loss to Romania in Group A, hosted by the Netherlands and Germany.

The Croats excelled early, surging to a 5:2 lead by the 6th minute behind Lucija Bešen’s stellar saves, but Romania’s Yulia Dumanska sparked a 6-0 run for a 12:8 halftime edge. Croatia shot 55% efficiently despite 7 turnovers and 4 exclusions, trailing minimally at 12:13.

A strong start faded as Dumanska dominated with 13 saves, Lorena Ostase troubled the line, and Croatian wings faltered amid 12 turnovers. Tactics shifted to 7-on-6 late, but a 10-goal deficit peaked at 19:29; Bešen notched 9 saves, Tina Barišić led scoring with 7 goals, Sara Šenvald added 3.

Dumanska earned player of the match; Sorina Grozav topped Romania’s scorers with 7. Croatia faces Denmark on November 29 at 8:30 pm.
