Luka Modrić has signed a contract with AC Milan until June 30, 2026, with the option to extend it for an additional season if both parties are satisfied with their cooperation. He joins Milan as a free agent after completing his extremely successful thirteen-year period at Real Madrid.
He will wear the number 14 jersey, a nod to his days at Tottenham and a tribute to the legendary Johan Cruyff. During his career at Real Madrid, Modrić played 597 matches, scored 43 goals, and won a total of 28 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four La Liga titles.
For the Croatian national team, he played a record 188 matches and scored 28 goals. He played his last game for Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain.
Upon arriving in Milan, Modrić said that he is pleased to open a new chapter in his career and highlighted AC Milan’s ambitions, as well as his desire to help the club return to the top of European football. Although he had offers from other clubs, he wanted to stay at the highest European level, which is why he chose Milan.
By joining Milan, Modrić will be a key player in strengthening the midfield and will bring great experience and leadership qualities. His first appearances in official matches are expected as early as August this year in the Coppa Italia and the new Serie A season. His transfer is considered one of the most high-profile in Serie A in recent years and will significantly boost Milan’s ambitions in Italy and Europe.
I am very happy to be here to start a new chapter in my career. Milan is a club with a great history and big ambitions, and I am eager to help them return to the top – Luka Modrić
