Ivan Martinović has signed a four-year contract with the Hungarian handball club Veszprém. He joins from Germany’s Rhein-Neckar Löwen, where he had a very successful season, scoring 140 goals in 23 Bundesliga matches.
Veszprém reportedly paid around €500,000 for his transfer, and part of the deal included Swedish right back Lukas Sandell moving to Rhein-Neckar Löwen. The transfer does not include a buyout clause and will keep Martinović at Veszprém until the summer of 2029.
Martinović, captain of the Croatian national team, said that he is in his best playing years and wants to help Veszprém achieve great results. With this move, he will also have the opportunity to play in the EHF Champions League and be closer to his hometown of Vienna.
Before coming to Veszprém, Martinović played in Austria and the German Bundesliga, and he became captain of the Croatian national team after Domagoj Duvnjak retired. He was one of the best right-backs at the latest World Championship, where he won a silver medal with Croatia.
